Alexis Sanchez has claimed his Arsenal future depends entirely on the club
Alexis Sanchez has been locked in contract talks with Arsenal for months but has so far failed to agree new terms.
The Chile international’s current deal runs out next summer and the Gunners are said to have made him a bumper £250,000-a-week offer.
Sanchez is yet to sign the new contract and the club have since shelved negotiations amid reports the 28-year-old’s wage demands are too high.
And the former Barcelona man has suggested earnings could be the reason for the standoff, revealing the likelihood of him signing a new contract rests entirely in the club’s hands.
“I cannot tell you now [about my future], we have to wait until the end of the season,” Sanchez said.
Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal futures are both in doubt
“As I always say, it doesn’t depend on me. It depends on the club. What they like, what they don’t like.
“I always said the same, I try to do my best, to support the team, to score goals, to win victories.
“And we will see at the end. If they like that I carry on, or they don’t.
“Whatever they want, we will see it at the end of the tournament.”
Alexis Sanchez is not the only star player Arsenal risk losing in the summer with Mesut Ozil also approaching the final year of his contract.
The Germany international is also said to be demanding a huge pay hike to stay in north London long term.
The contract doesn’t depend on me. It depends on Arsenal
And Arsene Wenger admitted in March both sets of talks for Sanchez and Ozil had been shelved until the end of the season.
“At the moment we have not got an agreement,” Wenger told broadcaster beIN Sports.
“We have decided to focus on the end of the season and talk about it in the summer.
“It is the same situation with Ozil because once you don’t find an agreement and it lasts, it is not good so it is better you get it out and sit down in the summer.”
Sanchez and Ozil’s deals both run until June 2018.
